Farm Gear
On the Farm, we try to keep the equipment situation as simple as possible. This requires two things: the gear must fit the job, and it has to be reliable. With something as seemingly simple as a pair of comfortable, rugged overalls for day-to-day work, things can still go wrong. Having a rivetted button pull out of a just-broken-in pair is pretty annoying, and can happen with expensive, well-known brands. When it comes to more complicated things, like your a tiller or tractor, not only is reliability critical, you also want a dealer or parts-and-service supplier that you can count on. If this all seems obvious, it is! The point is, you look for names you can trust, and you really appreciate the ones you find.
Here are is an ongoing list of brands and suppliers that have performed above average so far:
Lee Valley Tools have excellent service and quality house-brand garden tools. Tops on quick, no-hassle replacement if something breaks!
Tough Duck work clothes are comfortable and durable, and priced right. Great zip-front overalls!
Trillium Greenhouse Equipment were excellent on product and super on service for our first steel-framed double-plastic greenhouse.
William Dam Seeds carry all untreated seed, with a good selection of certified organic. Top marks for really helpful info.

CSA Update |
|
It's 2008 and the new farming year is underway! Sign-ups for 2008 are way ahead of any previous year, with both renewals and new members already in. Share prices have been increased for this season (the first increase since we began four years ago). The season will once again be 18 weeks, beginning around mid-June. This year, you're also encourage to visit the farm at least once, and a new farmwork program is being considered, where you can do some veggie gardening here in the field, in 4-hour blocks, when it's convenient to you. If you're interested in CSA with us for 2008, here are the details for our farm, and the new 2008 printable sign-up form (or email or call for one to be mailed!). And there's more CSA info in the FAQs.
